Photonic Generation of Barker-code Phase-Coded Terahertz Signals

A scheme for generating Barker-code phase-coded terahertz signals is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on optical frequency combs (OFC) and optical heterodyne. A dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator (DPMZM) is employed for modulation implementation, where a radio frequency is applied to one arm, and the Barker-code is used to drive the other. In the experiment, we successfully generate a 10 Gbit/s Barkercode phase-coded THz signal at 357 GHz with a π phase shift, which can be potentially used in the THz pulse compression radar and communication systems.
