A shower detector of an improved scintillator glass and its longitudinal response

1981
Abstract Performance of a block of a new scintillator glass SCG1C (14 × 14 × 40 cm 3 ) has been investigated for 23–117 MeV/ c electrons. The light yield in SCG1C is 1.44 times larger than that in SCG1B reported previously [2]. At the same time, the energy resolution is improved by a factor of 0.88 and is approximately given by 5.7%/√ E ( E in GeV) fwhm. The longitudinal responses are measured for five blocks of different surface textures using collimated electrons and pions. Three kinds of surface textures are employed for the five blocks. The longitudinal response depends significantly on the surface textures. The optically polished block shows the best uniformity.
