Breast cancer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: A review of all female breast cancer cases from the Saudi Cancer Registry (SCR) from 1994-2004.

e12042 Background: Saudi Arabia (SA) is divided into 13 administrative regions (AR) and the first case registered in the Saudi Cancer Registry (SCR) was in 1994. The SCR through 5 regional offices collects all cancer cases using the World Heath Classification and the SEER staging system as the main reference for the data collected. Breast cancer in the most common malignancy in SA and is analyzed in details using the SCR database. Methods: All female breast cancer (FBC)cases in the SCR between 1994-2004 were reviewed for incidence age, pathology and stage regional difference and changing trends in various study variables were analyzed. Chi square and Fisher's exact tests were used for comparative analysis. Results: 6,529 cases of FBC over 10 years period from SCR were included. The median age was around 46 years. The number of cases have doubled from 450 in 1994 to 900 in 2004. Age standardized incidence rate ASR ranged from 12.6 to 15.4/100,000. Only 1.4 % had pure in situ disease at diagnosis. There is ...
