Relative susceptibility of some varieties and hybrids of sorghum to shootfly
1983
During varietal susceptibility tests at Kolhapur, India, with 20 lines of sorghum, the average number of eggs per plant laid by Atherigona soccata Rond. varied from 0.06 to 0.84, while the proportion of plants showing deadhearts caused by the same pest varied from 19.99 to 84.78%. A variety named SPV-107 was the least susceptible to larval damage (although not significantly less susceptible than 3 others) and also bore the lowest numbers of eggs. Conversely, the varieties HD-10-9 (70.06% damage) and Swarna (84.78%) had both the highest numbers of eggs per plant and the highest percentage of deadhearts
