The histological appearance of lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) in the breast is well defined. However, opinions differ on the interpretation of its biological nature and on how to treat the disease. Recommendations range from systematic follow-up to mastectomy (Haagensen et al. 1978; Rosen et al. 1981).
