Morphological Characteristics of the Products from the Carbonization of the Copper Catalyst in the Partial Oxidation of Ethylene Glycol

2001
The formation of carbonization products in the oxidation of ethylene glycol to glyoxal on a massive sample of copper catalyst was studied by electron microscopy, elemental CH analysis, X-ray phase analysis, and the catalytic flow method. Filamentary, dendritic, and polycrystalline morphological forms of the carbonization products were identified. It was shown that there is a relation between the morphological forms of the carbonization products and the catalytic activity of the copper.
