DATA REPORT FOR THE MTR SAMPLE 3F42

1960
The 3F42 sample, a single-ring fuel ribbon was tested for 55l hours 15 ndinutes in the ANP-3 racility of the Materials Testing Reactor. This sample test ran from April 2, l9~0 until May 9, l960 through MTR cycles 137 and l38. Thc test was conmposed of four different phases each with a difierent temperature, i.e., l800, 2l00, 2300, and 2000 deg F. Although the sandplof' was originally instrumented with 8 thermoeouples only 4 renmained operational throughout the test. During the test period the radiation monitor on the facility did increase. However this was quite negligible and there was no evidence that id fission break was present. The sample rendoval at the end of the test resulted in thc belief that the sample possibly was covered with oil from the coolant. An carly examination in the hot shop showed this to be of only ndinor consequence. The sample was storcd in a shipping cask to await shipment to Evendale for thc postii-radiation exandination. (auth)
