Analysis of the causes of death and strategy of effective treatment in senile patients with acute intestinal obstruction

Objective To explore the causes of death and effective prevention and cure in the senile patients with acute intestinal obstruction. Methods The clinical data of 18 dead senile patients with acute intestinal obstruction from December 1996 to December 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Major death causes of senile patients with acute intestinal obstruction comprised septic shock, MSOF, respiratory failure and severe derangement of internal environment etc. Conclusion Effective prevention and cure of septic shock, active treatment of co-existing diseases and postoperative complications are major measures to decrease the mortality rate of senile patients with acute intestinal obstruction.
