The Future of Essential Oils as a Pest Biocontrol Method

Essential oils are now widespread as an alternative to synthetic pest control products in several sectors. Some are already commercially available, acting as repellents, attractants, or pesticides for use in agriculture, apiculture, livestock production, and treatment of companion animals and man alike. This chapter discusses examples from each of these areas and speculates on future research directions that may enable us to use essential oils more effectively.
