Finite element studies for correlation with block shear tests

1996
Tests of angles in tension have produced block shear failures for certain connection geometries. Finite element investigations have previously shown that the mode of failure can be exhibited analytically and have also helped to design future testing. This study attempts to give credence to trends previously predicted from actual block shear tests by comparing nondimensionalized finite element results with the results of the full scale testing. The effect of the outstanding leg, shear length and stagger are compared in this study.
