The application of peridynamics for ice modeling

2021
Abstract Ice has been studied for many years. Due to the advantages of peridynamics, it has been applicated in many studies to research the problems of ice. In this chapter, the application of PD for ice modeling is introduced. The first section introduces the structure, properties, constitutive of ice, the advantages and research status of using PD to study ice. In the second section, the common applications of PD in the simulation of mechanical characteristics of ice are introduced. In the third section, a numerical simulation of interaction between level ice and sloping structure is introduced. In the fourth section, the BBPD approach was applied to investigate the fragmentation of ice cover by blast loads of an underwater explosion. The last section introduces a method of coupling FEM and PD to investigate the continuous icebreaking process.
