Multiple Daily Fractionation (MDF) in Association with Misonidazole (MIS): A Two-Year Experience with Head and Neck Cancer

1982
In our Institution MDF schemes have been introduced several years ago (1,2). One of the main reasons for developing and testing this kind of scheme is the possibility of compressing the radiation dose in time, thus allowing a better exploitation of hypoxic cell radiosensitizers administration within the well-known toxicity limits. Further, other radiobiological criteria may justify the use of non-conventional fractionation per se (and of local hyperthermia) on radioresistant tumours with a presumably high fraction of hypoxic cells.
