High Pressure Phase Transition and Variation of the Elastic Constant of U‐La‐S Solid Solution

2006
An effective interionic interaction potential (EIOP) approach is employed for the description of the pressure induced phase transitions of UxLa1−xS (x = 0, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6) solid solutions. The long range Coulomb interaction with modified ionic charge, the van der Waals (vdW) interaction, and a short‐range repulsive interaction (up to second neighbor ions) are properly incorporated into the EIOP. We have obtained a reasonably good agreement between the theoretical and available experimental values for the phase transition pressures and elastic properties of UxLa1−xS compounds.
