The use of a GIS to evaluate the erosion of the Ligurian littoral.

The greatest part of the Ligurian beaches has the characteristic of being pocket beaches, between two rocky cliffs with short extension and of having an elevated slope and coarse grained. This morpho-sedimentological situation is not so exhaustive to evaluate the erosion of the beach only through the analysis of the shoreline variation. Thus, to evaluate the hazard it has been necessary to associate the parameter of the coast evolution to other parameters able to give information about the state of the littoral. The sedimentogical data have been implemented on Arcview platform through the creation of a geodatabase. A value index has been assigned to this morfo-sedimentary parameters that is a function of these parameters, then they have been elaborated through a simple computation algorithm. Thanks to the results four groups have been defined to evaluate the erosive state of the littoral.
