Water Level Oscillations In Reservoir Caused By Upstream Hydropower Plant Operation

1970
Results of numerical modelling of unsteady flow in the reservoir between two cascade hydropower plants and field investigatios are described and compared in this paper. The field data were used for calibration of the numerical model. In the stage of calibration the mathematical model parameters were defined so that agreement between model and field data of water level oscillations was obtained. It is shown that numerical model can be successfully used for modelling of unsteady gow in river stretches or reservoirs between two hydropower plants. The fact that water level oscillations can be predicted very precisely for different scenarios of hydropower operations brings the possibility to avoid undesired consequences downstream (banks overtopping, banks deterioration, local scouring and demolition of bridges or other structures in watercourse).
