Characteristics of bit pattern written by a planar-type head
2002
Abstract An attempt is made to achieve a very high density recording on continuous longitudinal media with a newly designed planar-type write head, which can generate a very high write field up to about 14 kOe. A particular emphasis is given to the writability of the planar-type head on the medium with a very high value of magneto-crystalline anisotropy ( K ). A reasonably good bit pattern with a density of 605 kfci is generated on the medium with K =4.5×10 5 J/m 3 . However, bit shape is rather curved, and the track width of the written pattern is significantly higher than the head track width. These problems are relieved with the use of a trimmed planar head showing narrow field distribution.
