Charting the Past, Present, and Future in Mobile Sensing Research and Development

Abstract Mobile sensing is a relatively new field aimed at collecting data from sensors included in mobile devices. In this chapter, we present an analysis of different trends that have been pervading the mobile sensing field throughout its development, particularly in the area of health care and wellness. We carried out a scoping review based on several related papers classified using a variety of criteria. The results show that most papers have used an opportunistic paradigm, and that, thus far, most research has been conducted within the areas of engineering or computer science.
