Structural design and analysis of trestle used for ship construction and repair

The ships are overhauled and repaired at regular interval of time. The maximum dimension of the vessel that can be docked is less than 18m width and vessels having peak load in the particular region cannot be docked due to the trestle less loading capacity of 350 tons. In order to increase the yard capacity and construct ships having width more than 18m width, redesign of trestle is required. In this paper trestle is designed to withstand a safe working load of 700 ton. The trestle is model for different geometry design and is analyzed using the FEA software. There are two working conditions, one is load acting directly on the Trestle when it is standing and another is load acting on the trestle when it is getting lifted by the trolleys during ship transfer. The numerical simulation is carried out for different loading condition of the trestle, mainly the full load at the center of the trestle and the partial load at the periphery of the trestle. The simulated results are validated with the base model for design criteria.
