Protein cross-linking mediated by metalloporphyrins

Abstract A biomimetic protein cross-linking reaction is described which employs oxidatively-activated manganese and iron porphyrins as the reactive species. A wide range of proteins cross-link under these conditions, but only if they are intimately associated in solution. The reaction is rapid, efficient, and will be useful for the suprastructural analysis of multiprotein complexes.
