CONFLICT TACTICS AND VIOLENCE IN DATING SITUATIONS
1982
A research questionnaire was administered to 215 university students to investigate how they handle conflicts in heterosexual relation ships. Results showed that males and females scored the highest on a Verbal Reasoning Scale and the lowest on a Violence Scale. However, almost one out of every four students reported being either a victim of violence behavior or had engaged in some form of violence. Furthermore a very strong association between being a victim of violence and being a victimizer was found. An investigation was also undertaken to determine the existence of conflict tactics used by parents and those conflict tactics used by their off-spring. Discussion of findings and implications are presented.
