Development of Engelhard's ART process

The Asphalt Residual Treating (ART) process is a selective fluid vaporization process that uses a proprietary contact material, SMART, to remove heavy metals, carbon residue, and nitrogen and sulfur compounds from crudes and reduced crudes. This paper discusses factors that limit residual oil operations in typical fluid catalytic cracking units and describes the ART process and the test results from a semicommercial demonstration unit. 5 refs.
