Metabolism of Nucleic Acids and Proteins in Recalcitrant Wampee (Clausena lansium)Embryos during Desiccation

2000
Synthetic rate of nucleic acids and proteins in embryos of recalcitrant wampee seeds were increased gradually in the late developmental stage(7190DAF).After physiological maturation, wampee seeds maintained active metabolism and transferred into germinating state. However, in the orthodox peanut seeds, synthetic rate of nucleic acids and proteins were decreased with the maturation of seeds (6585DAP).Peanut seeds maintained lower level of metabolism, and entered stationary state when maturation. During the processes of water loss in wampee embryos, the ability of macromolecule's synthesis was rapidly decreased and hydrolysis of nucleic acids was obvioulsy enhanced. Imbibing for 24h ,synthetic rates of nucleic acids and proteins in dehydrated embryos of wampee were decreased with water loss. Metabolism of biomacromolecules in dehydrated embryos of peanut could be completely recovered by rehydration. It was suggested that desiccation sensitivity in recalcitrant wampee seeds was related to the metabolism of nucleic acids and proteins.
