Effect of low tunnel on growth performance of winter paddy seedlings

2002
This study presents some of the techniques for quick raising of paddy seedlings in winter. In all four techniques were tried in this experiment viz: transparent plastic low tunnel, white plastic strip over the crop row, black plastic strip over the crop row, and paddy straw cover. Of which transparent plastic low tunnel technique was found to be the appropriate as the seedlings could be raised within 25–28 days against 40.to 45 days taken in the open field thereby saving of about 15 to 20 days. Temperature inside the tunnel was found about 4° C more than the control. The chlorophyll content of the seedlings was also found about 35% more compared to open field seedlings.
