Influence of Reactive Power Optimization on Renewable Energy Accommodation and Its Evaluation Method

With the large-scale renewable energy integrated into the power grid, the reverse power flow of the line has increased, causing the voltage to exceed the limit, and then adversely affecting the accommodation level of the power grid. Reactive power optimization can alleviate the voltage problems, and thereby improve the level of renewable energy accommodation. This paper firstly adopts the Monte Carlo-based probabilistic power flow algorithm to propose two accommodation evaluation indicators to reasonably evaluate the accommodation capacity of an actual large power grid; then without reducing the active power of renewable energy sources, using its own reactive power control capability to optimize the power grid’s voltage, and the effect of reactive power optimization on the level of accommodation is studied.
