Particle trajectories in magnetic fields. A comparison between calculated and experimental results

1968
Abstract The significance of specific numerical methods for calculation of particle trajectories in magnetic fields are demonstrated by comparing calculated focussing properties with corresponding experimentally established ones. The comparison is made for the focussing features of an electron spectrometer, and the calculations are based upon the magnetic field as obtained by a direct measurement in this spectrometer. Calculated and measured results are in very good agreement. A general approach to the application of computer techniques to the design of focusing magnets is discussed.
