Crystal growth of the layered organic antiferromagnet, deuterated κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Br

2016
A large single crystal is often required for the measurements of physical quantities such as specific heat, magnetization, and NMR, etc. This is because the signals in such measurements are proportional to the size of the crystal. For this requirement, we tried to synthesize large single crystals of organic material. In this letter, detailed procedures for the synthesis of large and high-quality single crystals of the layered organic antiferromagnet, deuterated κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Br, are reported. An electrochemical method with controlling applied current was used in order to grow large and high-quality single crystals. As a result, we successfully obtained several large crystals of which weighing in 9.45, 15.13 and 18.59 mg. These crystals are comparable to, or larger than the crystals used in previous researches, and the crystal of 18.59 mg is almost two times larger than the largest crystal reported so far. The Laue diffraction pattern of the smallest one of those single crystals has a good orders ...
