[Reproductive health and rights of women: a reflection on concrete objectives]

1992
New women’s health policies were proposed by Colombia’s Ministry of Health at the forum “Women for Health Health for Women” held in Bogota in May 1992. The proposals were intended to improve quality and coverage of health services at all levels of care and to meet women’s needs regarding their bodies sexuality lives and health. Direct participation of women in policy formulation and implementation is also to be promoted. The problems of adolescent mothers received particular emphasis at the forum. Substantial changes must be made to provide solutions to the problems that arise when adolescent pregnancies are unwanted and the help of the partner or family is not forthcoming. The Health for Women Women for Health policies are needed because of the significant sociodemographic occupational and educational changes women have experienced and the international commitments to a more just and equitable society that Ecuador has endorsed. The problem faced by women at present is to reshape an identity lost between the masculine world and the identification of women purely as mothers. New subprograms will be developed and implemented in the area of health promotion and self-care for women integral care for reproductive health and sexuality prevention of abuse and care of victims of violence mental health and occupational health.
