A Survey of Practices in Meeting Pupil Adjustment Needs

The study was limited to cities of 50,000 to 300,000 population. Five page questionnaires were sent to one half of the cities in the 50,000 to 100,000 bracket and to all cities between 100,000 and 300,000 population. Beyond a small amount of personal visitation carried on in setting up the survey, this required that questionnaires be sent to one hundred and ten superintendents of schools. The work was undertaken in the early summer of 1946 and ran into the school year of 1946-47. Population figures were taken from the 1946 World Almanac and called for representing thirty-eight of the forty-eight states in the study. The ten states not listed as having cities within the survey's limited range v/ere Idaho, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming. 268
