Degradation of the phytoalexin medicarpin by Fusarium oxysporum F. Sp. Lycopersici

Abstract Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici completely degrades the pterocarpan phytoalexin medicarpin. Three intermediates of the catabolic pathway were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques as 7,2′-dihydroxy-4′-methoxyisoflavan (vestitol), 7,2′-dihydroxy-4′-methoxyisoflav-3-ene and 7,2′-dihydroxy-4′-methoxyisoflav-3-en-2-one.
