The radiological approach to the carpal tunnel release – An anatomical pilot study

Abstract Different techniques are available for carpal tunnel release such as classical surgical operations or minimally invasive procedures. A minimally invasive approach and the relevant regional anatomy are reported in this pilot study which was conducted with bodies from a body donation program. The method described here uses a hook knife to cut through the transverse carpal ligament or flexor retinaculum under ultrasound guidance. The results are documented by means of magnetic resonance and ultrasound imaging as well as by anatomical dissection.
