Study on Vibration Reaming Small Caliber Gun Tube

The mechanism of lowering surface roughness of vibration reaming is studied.The experiments of vibration reaming small caliber gun tube with cemented carbide reamer are carried out.The influence of vibration reaming on surface roughness of gun tube is analyzed in depth.The continuous cutting process of the conventional reaming is transformed into the pulsed intermittent cutting process so that the continuous helical chip of the conventional reaming is transformed into the minute acicular cell chip of the vibration reaming.The capability of chip-breaking and chip-removing of reaming is strengthened,therefore the formation of built-up edge is suppressed which avoids the generation of plough ditch and scales of hole surface.The experimental results indicate that the surface roughness Ra of the vibration reaming is enhanced at least 3 levels than that of the conventional reaming,and the surface roughness Ry is less than one-fourteenth of the conventional reaming.The surface finish of gun tube is greatly improved.
