A short stereoselective synthesis of (-)-serricornin

Abstract Palladium-catalyzed reduction of (+)-( E )-(6 S , 7 S )-4,6-dimethyl-6,7-epoxy-4-nonen-3-one with formic acid gave (−)-( E )-(6 S , 7 S )-4,6-dimethyl-7-hydroxy-4-nonen-3-one, which was hydrogenated to give (−)-serricornin.
