Evaluation Method for Polluted Lake Water by Monitoring System
2001
In this study, a novel monitoring system of lake water quality which consisted of
sampling, detecting, assessing system as well as information database method was
constructed. The field-gathered and partially processed data (such as water temperature,
pH value.) are recorded using near-infrared spectroscopy, and calibrated against the
water chemistry by the conventional analytical methods. The level of the eutrophication
was evaluated by the trophic state index and biological index. The information obtained
are transmitted to the database and distributed through the wide area network to
administration units, enterprises, institutes and public. A case study was carried out in the
Lake Kasumigaura, the second biggest lake in Japan.
