Experimental analysis of the segregation process of the Al8FeMnSi2 phase in an Al-Si-Fe-Mn alloy

An experimental analysis of the segregation process of the Al 8 FeMnSi 2 was conducted in a liquid alloy of the Al-Si-Fe-Mn system, in the range of temperatures from 878 to 973 K. From the experimental measurements related with the kinetics of the segregation process, the parameter values of both nucleation and growth phenomena were obtained, i. e. activation energy for both as well as other important parameters included in the kinetic formulae. The experimental determinations are closer to technical than theoretical analysis so it was established that as a result of the segregation of the intermetallic phase, depletion of the initial levels of iron and manganese occur.
