Analyzing of visual functions ofaspheric intraocular lenses using i-trace analyzer

2010
Objective To studying the effect of high order aberrations (HOAs) and modulation transfer function (MTF) of eyes following cataracts surgeries with implanting aspheric intraocular lenses. Methods:60 eyes of 41 consecutive cataract patients were enrolled and performed phacoemulsification with IOLs implantations by same surgeon. 30 eyes of 20 patients were implanted aspheric IOLs (group 1 ),the others were spherical IOLs (group 2 ). All eyes of spherical aberrations and HOAs as well as MTF were measured postoperatively in whole eye, cornea and intraocular respectively using i-trace analyzer. Results: postoperatively, the uncorrected distance visual acuities were not statistically significant between group 1 and group 2.The HOAs and spherical aberrations in whole eye and intraocular were statistically significant lower in group 1 than group 2.Same statistically significant were also found in MTF. But the corneal aberrations in two groups were not statistically significant. Conclusions: the cataract surgery following implantation of aspheric IOL can reduce the HOAs and spherical aberrations than spherical IOLs in whole eye and intraocular. This would improve the image quality and make a better satisfaction to patients. Key words: Cataract;  Aspheric intraocular lens;  Aberration;  Modulation transfer function
