DETERMINANTES SOCIALES DE LA SALUD (DSS) Y LA DISCAPACIDAD EN MANIZALES - 2012: RESULTADOS DESDE EL REGISTRO PARA LA LOCALIZACION Y CARACTERIZACIÓN DE PERSONAS CON DISCAPACIDAD INVESTIGADORES

2013
Objective: To establish the relationship between the social determinants of health (structural and intermediate) and the components of disability (impairment, limitation in activity and restriction in participation) in the city of Manizales, Colombia. Method and Instrument: A descriptive study was carried out with a correlational phase of univariate and bivariate analysis, with 6,150 records, which are the total of the population identified in the Register of Location and Characterization of People with Disabilities, provided by the Secretary of Salud de Manizales based on its 2008 projective study. Among the social determinants analyzed are: age, gender, stratum, educational level, origin of disability, employment situation, type of affiliation to the General System of Social Security in Health (SGSSS ). Results: 6,150 people with disabilities were studied (3,181 women and 2,969 men), the average age in men is 40.5 years +/- 26.3 years, and in women it is 48.9 years +/- 24.6 years. The alterations in the movement of the body, hands, arms and legs stand out, with 44.7%, the permanent alteration in the nervous system with 43.3% and in third place those of the cardiorespiratory system and defenses 40.5%. A direct relationship was found between age and disability, so that it increases with age. The results indicated that there is an association between the structural and intermediate determinants with the restriction in participation, the strongest levels of dependency were found between the type of establishment where they receive rehabilitation services and activity developed during the last six months. Conclusions: Among the structural and intermediate determinants that are associated with disability in Manizales are age (being an adult), gender (female), education (primary), employment and salary, affiliation to SGSSS, and affected body structure and function. Another structural determinant of health and fundamental disability is the possibility of participation and access, since the results indicate that it is barriers in housing, physical environment and attitudes that greatly limit people with disabilities.
