Evaluation of Firm Level Technology Usage in Developing Countries

2014
In this paper, we investigate how organizational and environmental characteristics are associated with technology usage at the firm level in developing countries. Our study differs from others since we compare the technology usage environments of firms in two developing nations with similar economic magnitude; Mexico and Turkey. A macro(level study consisting of firms from many nations may not be able to identify country(specific factors. In addition to the organizational and environmental factors defined in prior literature, we introduce new operationalization of environmental factors such as crime & security and political instability and corruption. We predict that factors associated with technology usage at firm level would be similar in these two countries. We use secondary data for 1124 firms. Our findings imply that the effect and significance of factors associated to technology usage vary across these two developing countries.
