Population Dynamics of Rice Brown Planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens in Godavari Delta of Andhra Pradesh State

2006
Field experiments during Kharif 2007 & 2002 and Rabi 2002 and 2003 at A.P. Rice Research Institute, Maruteru on population dynamics of brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens in Krishna-Godavari zone of Andhra Pradesh, India revealed that during Kharif, BPH nymphs constituted more than 80% of field population which could be predicted based on light trap (LT) catches. The correlation coefficients (r) between BPH nymphs and BPH brachvpterous females present in the field one or two weeks earlier were high (0.9505 to 0.9709) and significant. During Rabi BPH nymphal population in the field was lower than during Kharif and was significantly correlated with brachypterous females (r - 0.803 to 0.880). Among the weather parameters, minimum temperature and sunshine hours were positively correlated with BPH field population during Rabi.
