Influence of Nickel on the Structure of Al0.878Si0.122 Liquid Eutectic

2016
We investigate the atomic structure of aluminum-based alloys both by the X-ray diffraction method and by the reverse Monte-Carlo technique. We compute the total and partial structural factors, the pair correlation functions, and partial coordination numbers. It is shown that Al0.88Si0.12 eutectic melt consists of microregions based on aluminum and an Al–Si solution. Adding nickel to the eutectic leads to the formation of Al–Ni chemically ordered structural regions where nickel is mainly surrounded by aluminum atoms.
