Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring in Brain Aneurysm Surgery

2018
Abstract Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM) is quickly gaining popularity across the full spectrum of neurosurgical subspecialties. It is particularly useful during brain aneurysm surgery, given its ability to detect cerebral ischemia in a timely manner. This electrophysiologic feedback provides the neurosurgeon with an opportunity to undertake corrective surgical actions before irreversible brain injury occurs. In this chapter, we offer a practical review of the various IONM modalities used in aneurysm surgery, their indications, advantages, and limitations.
