Principle and Design Parameters of a ±160kV Resistive DC Superconducting Current Limiter

All the time the DC transmission system is faced with the problem of difficulty in interruption the fault current. DC superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) technology is one of the promising means to solve this problem. In the study, the principle and characteristics of DC SFCL is introduced. Then the key issues in development and the desired economic benefits are summarized. At last, the main paramete is of the current limiter are introduced with a ± 160kV prototype as an example, the main components including superconducting current limiting unit, cryogenic container, high voltage outlet unit and refrigeration system are illustrated, which can be used as a reference for technicians.
