Commentary on: Body Hair Transplant by Follicular Unit Extraction: My Experience With 122 Patients.

This is another hair transplant article in a series of experiential reports by the same author using nontraditional donor hair.1 The author is to be commended on reporting his unique experience. However, the first point to be made about this article for the practicing plastic surgeon considering, or already incorporating, hair restoration into their practice is that even in a busy hair transplant practice, body hair as a donor source represents a very limited number of cases per year. Although the author states 45% of his patients currently receive body hair as a donor source, the numbers reported are exceedingly limited on an annualized basis. This current report cites the experience with 122 patients over 6 years, which equates to only 20 patients/year. Nevertheless, this series does represent a significant number of transplant cases in which body hair is the donor source and several take-away messages are certainly relevant.
