Implementación y análisis de un programa de educación ambiental para la gestión voluntaria de la demanda de agua en hogares del municipio de Soacha (Cundinamarca)

Water management in human activities is essential for society in sustainable development of water resources so, positive attitudes of community about water demand make the pressure on resources is reduced to the point of making sustainable use over time, harmonizing conservation and utilization. Therefore, this research identified the variables that control the effectiveness of an environmental education program in the management of water demand using as a case study households of Soacha. The habits, attitudes, personal competences and socio-demographic factors can influence water consumption so this project pretended through an educational campaign to intervene the practices associated to water consumption using as a strategy to involve High School students in the use of educational tools like graphics, website and workshops which let us to quantify the effectiveness of environmental education program from reductions in water consumption in students´ households. Furthermore, the influence of socio-demographic, economic, environmental factors and quality of life are analyzed in the water consumption and behavior change. It was found that educational campaigns produce a positive effect on behavior change to voluntary water demand. The socio economic factors such as type of house, social stratum, if there are more families per house, and people living in rent are statistically significant variables in the variation of water consumption. The graphic strategy generated positive behavior changes to reduce water consumption as well as the recommendations in the techniques of water consumption.
