Gain-scheduled control design using the loop transfer recovery method for vapor compression systems

1997
Presents a case study of gain-scheduled control design for a vapor compression heat pump that operates over a wide range of operating conditions. Reference inputs that uniquely specify the operating point are selected as the scheduling parameters. It is shown that the allowable variation rate of scheduling parameters can be maximized when a set of local, linear controllers are carefully designed by following guidelines established from gain scheduling analysis. It is also shown via simulation that the loop transfer recovery technique is well suited to designing local, linear controls in that the prescribed local closed-loop behaviour can be guaranteed via the recovery procedure.
