Modulation Of An Annular Electron Beam By A Two Cavity Klyston Amplifier

1994
The authors have been conducting experiments and computer simulations of annular electron beam powered microwave devices. This work includes the generation of an annular electron beam (400 kV, 16 kA) using the IMP pulser (500 kV, 5 {Omega}, 300 ns), the modulation of this beam by a two cavity klystron-like amplifier, and the extraction or radiation of the microwave power. They have completed simulations and experiments with different magnetized diodes to propagate the beam through the microwave circuit. They will present comparisons between simulation and experiment of the beam modulation, and beam loading of the microwave cavities. They will also show initial concepts for a microwave extractor which separates the microwave signal from the electron beam.
