Research on Interchangeability of Intelligent Electronic Device Based on Plug and Play in Intelligent Substations

The interchangeability of devices in intelligent substations is one of realization goals of the IEC 61850 standards. In this regard, this paper conducted research on interchangeability of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) based on plug-and-play (PnP) in intelligent substations, and a method to realize the interchange of IEDs in intelligent substations is proposed. Firstly, we refer to Universal Plug-and-Play (UPnP) and IEC 61850 standards to implement the PnP of IEDs in the network, and realize PnP for IEDs in the system in combination with the management and control platform. Then, according to the actual operation and maintenance in intelligent substations, we divide the scenarios of IEDs’ interchange into special scenario and general scenario from the perspective of system configuration. The research in this paper can provide technical guidance for advancing the implementation of IED interchangeability projects in intelligent substations.
