Terapia de reemplazo renal, una alternativa para la calidad de vida de los pacientes

2021
Chronic kidney disease is a condition caused by the loss of kidney function with impaired glomerular filtration for more than three months, making it necessary to receive renal replacement therapy which is a substitute for the normal function of kidneys by removing fluid from the blood using filtration across semipermeable membranes, especially to maintain homeostasis by removing toxic nitrogenous substances and accumulated wastes. These procedures, in particular hemodialysis, may lead to various complications for they are invasive processes. It is worth mentioning that replacement therapy may decrease patients´ quality of life, especially impacting their physical and psychological domains, at the expense of maintaining a better condition of their renal health.
