Poliosis Overlying a Neurofibroma

1968
A 19-year-old male had developed an asymptomatic swelling over the left side of his scalp at the age of 4 years. This proved to be a neurofibroma. At age 12, he noted the development of a localized area of graying of the hair overlying the swelling. The gray appearance was due to an admixture of normally melanized dark hairs and amelanotic hairs. To the best of our knowledge this represents the first reported case of poliosis circumscripta overlying a neurofibroma.
