Wegener's granulomatosis of the orbit:Diagnostic and therapeutic problems

1983
A 22-year-old woman with a long history of intermittent painful right proptosis is presented. Several biopsies revealed a ‘pseudo-tumor’ of the orbit. She was initially treated successfully with prednisolone, but later the tumor developed steroid resistance. A multi-disciplinary approach to the lesion, especially with immunological techniques, was performed and is advocated, finally resulting in the diagnosis Wegener's granulomatosis. Treatment with prednisolone and cyclophosphamide proved very effective.
