A fractional model of viscoelastic relaxation

2004
Abstract The fractional model of viscoelastic relaxation was applied for the analysis of the high temperature internal friction background in two materials: a γ-TiAl-based alloy and a tetragonal polycrystalline zirconia ceramic (ZrO 2 –2.8 mol% Y 2 O 3 ). In both cases, the fractional model offers a consistent description of the experimental data showing that the high temperature internal friction background exhibits viscoelastic behaviour. The fractional parameter q increases with increasing temperature, which reflects the increasing role of a Newtonian fluid component in the viscoelastic relaxation.
